What do I need to know?

Have you ever wanted to share your passion and knowledge for aviation with others? Teaching is a great way to give back and grow more as a pilot. To become a CFI, you must first hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate with ratings for Airplane Single-Engine and Instrument Airplane

A Flight Instructor Certificate, you may:

Ground School

In addition to advanced concepts of aerodynamics, your CFI preparation will focus on teaching maneuvers and the fundamentals of instruction (FOI)—to prepare you to convey information to your students logically and effectively. Minimum Requirements 

  • Be 18 years of age
  • Hold at least a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating or an ATP certificate
  • Pass the FAA Flight Instructor-Airplane  Knowledge Exam
  • Pass the FAA Flight Fundamentals of Instructing Knowledge Exam
  • Pass the FAA-Administered Practical Test
